DIY Coffee Facial Scrub

Winter has well and truly scattered its miserable cold sadness into our souls, which means it’s super important that we are looking after ourselves, especially as we start delving into second semester. Sure, we can don ourselves in cute beanies, drink hot chocolate until we resemble Augustus Gloop from Willy Wonka, and snuggle up to loved ones under a doona watching 90s movies – but despite everything being so damn damp everywhere, winter tends to bring another problem for many of us; dry skin.

If you’re looking for lush skin in this brisk weather and enjoy being awash with a delicate coffee scent, then look no further. Ladies and gents – a super simple DIY coffee scrub to keep you feeling good and smelling even better. It’s so simple and you’ve probably already got these ingredients lurking in your pantry.

1 cup of ground coffee

1/2 cup coconut oil

Zest of 1 orange

Peppermint oil – optional

  1. Combine coconut oil and coffee in a saucepan over a low heat and let it gently mix – but do not let it boil.
  1. Mix in the orange zest and peppermint oil
  1. Put the mixture in a bowl and let it cool for ten minutes
  1. Enjoy that bad boy on your skin as you take a bath or shower
  1. Feel excellent

Having something grainy like coffee works as an exfoliator; removing dead skin and oil helps moisturise leaving you feeling soft. The orange and essential oil are there simply for the smells. You could even add a handful of coarse salt or raw sugar at the end to assist with exfoliating. Just don’t leave it lying around in your bedroom in case of ants.
