When it comes to shopping, we usually think of large shopping complexes and shopping centres that contain endless amounts of retail stores for us to choose from. For many years, shopping in-store has been the only way to purchase a product or service including clothing, shoes, accessories, electronics, groceries, etc. But over the past decade, there has been a major shift in the way we shop. Now we have the option of going shopping simply by going on the internet; and no, you don’t have to worry about driving to your nearest shopping centre to do so. So which is better?
Online shopping has become extremely popular and beneficial over the past decade for a number of reasons. For one, it is very convenient. The convenience of shopping online allows you to shop for a product or service at your own leisure and at a time that suits you. This means that you’re able to shop outside of normal business hours and have the advantage of purchasing through an online retailer twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
Being able to order and purchase items from international retailers and websites is another major benefit of online shopping. We as consumers no longer have the restriction of only purchasing from local retailers because most online retailers offer shipping to various countries and areas around the world. This makes it easier for us to purchase items which may be difficult to find in their local area. International retailers can sometimes be cheaper than local retailers with certain items which is another reason why ordering from overseas websites is beneficial.
Another reason why online shopping is so beneficial is the various shipping options which are offered. One of these options include express shipping, which is the best option for us shoppers who are buying last minute gifts or other items that are necessary at the time. Even though express shipping costs more for the shopper, we can make a purchase the day before our item is shipped and delivered directly to our doorstep. Another popular option is free shipping, which usually occurs when we as the shopper spend a certain amount for us to be entitled to it or if the particular website offers free shipping with any purchase.
It is quite clear that online shopping has many advantages and is a popular way to shop nowadays. However, we shouldn’t completely forget about shopping in a traditional retail store as it also still has its benefits.
Shopping in-store allows more interaction with the sales representative and the staff that work in the store. When you walk into a traditional store, you have the option of having a friendly chat with the sales staff and ask them to explain their products and services in more detail.
The communication is face-to-face and much more personal than using a computer or an electronic device.
Another benefit with in-store shopping is that you are able to make an immediate purchase and take the item home with you without having to wait for a delivery in the mail. For instance, when you walk into a clothing or shoe store, you have the advantage and convenience of trying on these items in the store then paying for them and keeping them without having to wait a few days or weeks to be shipped.
It’s safe to say that there isn’t a better way to shop, whether online or in-store. They both have their pros and cons. In the end, it all comes down to personal choice and preference.
