Non-fiction, poetry and short story
We accept articles for both print and online publication. Before pitching your ideas, or submitting unsolicited material to Hyde , we suggest you familiarise yourself with our magazine. Check out our About Us page, or read a past issue of Hyde. This will allow you to understand the magazine’s audience, tone, content and word length. Hyde publishes non-fiction articles on a range of topics that are relevant to students and our community. This year we are also accepting poetry and short story. We do not accept academic essays.
Please read our submission guidelines on how to pitch and submit.
Non-fiction: we accept journalistic, creative non-fiction narrative, memoir, features, photo essay, reviews and travel profiles.
Poetry and fiction submissions
Hyde is also a platform for visual artist to display their talent. Opportunities include being an emerging or spotlight artist, submitting a photo essay and joining our list of photographers.
We aim to feature emerging or notable artists in each issue of Hyde. This is an opportunity for artists to showcase their work, together with an interview to explain their art and their artistic process. Their work will also be shown across Hyde’s social media. An artist can nominate themselves, or someone can refer them to Hyde via email.
Hyde is open to accepting a set or series of photographs on whatever theme the photographer has chosen. If you are interested then read the guidelines and pitch your idea via email.
Hyde is always in need of photographs for our front cover and articles. We may have a writer covering an event but need a photographer to take photos. Email us if you are interested in joining so we can contact you the next time we need a photographer.
We publish three issues of Hyde per year: semester 1, semester 2 and the summer holidays. An article about Valentine’s Day should be pitched for the Semester 1 issue, not the Semester 2 issue as it is published in the second half of the year. For each issue Hyde emails an article topic request to our subscriber list.
Do you have a passion to write about something? Email us with your ideas. You may also send us your completed article for consideration.
